Honored guest Michiko K. Hopkins presents an antique shikishi to Roberta. A shikishi is a paper board, covered with gold or silver metallic, then covered with a sheer protective paper, with edges of the board finished in gold trim. Michico also created calligraphic versions (in English and in Japanese kanjii) of two of Roberta's haiku. One of these haiku won the grand prize in the Foreign Language Category of the 10th
International Kusamakura Haiku Competition, the highlight of which was a trip to Kumamoto, Japan. The other haiku won runner-up in the same competition the following year.
