Ion Codrescu Artwork
All of the artwork in this gallery is by our friend, Ion Codrescu, who lives in Constanta, Romania. Ion teaches drawing at a school of art and art history at the University Ovidius Constanta. He studied ink painting and haiga with the Japanese artist Ryuhei Nishiyama. Please see these biographical notes from Simply Haiku for additional information and haiga.
To buy the originals of the paintings in the gallery, or to buy Ion's books, email the North Carolina Haiku Society, and we'll provide contact information. Ion has published poems, essays, and articles in 18 countries and 13 languages. Among his many awards was a Haiku Society of America Merit Book Award for Oaspete strain / A Foreign Guest, a travel journal in haiku, rengay, renku and haibun, written and translated by Ion. The book is based on his journey through the United States in the late 1990's. The rengay and renku in the book were produced in collaboration with the poets with whom he stayed along the way. We highly recommend this book, as it is rare for a single artist to practice all of these arts at a high level.
Ion's recent work includes livre haiga, a book with 100 haiga works in French and English.
